If you are in New York City and want one, I would race over to the boutique. This new Carrera Skipper, however, can be had for A$9800. The original 300-production run of Skipper watches in Carrera cases from 1968 are highly sought-after and have gone for US$80,000 at auction. After exactly 40 years of its removal from the TAG Heuer catalogue, the Skipper returned to much fanfare – with some, such as myself, believing it is the strongest Glassbox-framework Carrera to date. Of course the horological guest of honour was the new Skipper watch, displayed front and centre for all to see. The boutique is an inviting space that does not overwhelm the senses, with islands showcasing each of their collections in a way that both newbies and die-hards can engage with the watches and understand their context, heritage and technology. Located at 645 5th Avenue in New York City, TAG Heuer invited press, friends of the brand, and TAG Heuer actor, ambassador, and, most importantly, racing and TAG Heuer enthusiast Patrick Dempsey to celebrate the launch of the new boutique and the new TAG Heuer Carrera Skipper.
